Vincom Landmark 81 is a supertall skyscraper in Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam. It is currently the 2nd tallest building in Southeast Asia.

Name

The official name of the building is Vincom Landmark 81, the number 81 in the name indicates the building's floor count, the other building in Vietnam using floor number naming is the Landmark 72 in Hanoi, which has 72 floors. Vincom is the abbreviation of the words "Vingroup" and "commerce", Vingroup is the developer and the main investor of the building.

Location

Landmark 81 is located in Vinhomes Central Park, Phuong (Ward) 22, Binh Thanh District, Ho Chi Minh City, Vietnam.
The tower can be accessed by taking city bus number 30 or 56 to the station of Tân Cảng, then take a short walk. Or, directly get there by taking a taxi.

The tower is built as the centerpiece of a mixed-use urban complex named Vinhomes Central Park, the complex is located on the western banks of the Saigon River in Binh Thanh District of Ho Chi Minh City. The building is only 200 meters (650 feet) south of the Saigon Bridge.

The city's former tallest building Bitexco Financial Tower (a landmark in the city center) is located at 3.2 kilometers (about 2 miles) southwest of Vincom Landmark 81.

Height

The architectural height of Vincom Landmark 81 is 461.5 meters or 1,514 feet, the building contains a skinnier section at its top, the section is seen as spire as it has no usable floors, but not as skinny as a real spire, the building visually appears like a tower 461 meter high by roof height. And an 8.3-meter tall small antenna installed on the top of spire brings the total height of the tower to about 470 meters (1541 ft).

The highest occupied floor is at 383 meters or 1,255 feet, which is occupied by an observation deck.
The building had topped out in April 2018. At 461 meters, Vincom Landmark 81 is currently the tallest building in Vietnam and the 2nd tallest building in Southeast Asia, only after Merdeka 118 in Kuala Lumpur. In the world, the tower is the 18th tallest building as of 2023.

Uses

Vincom Landmark 81 is a mixed-use building, the tower has office space, luxury apartments, a five-star hotel, and a multi-story observation deck.

The bottom three floors are occupied by a high-end shopping center named Vincom Center.
The 4th to 41th floors are residential space.
The Vinpearl Hotel occupies the tower's 47th to 77th floors, the hotel has 223 rooms and suites with breathtaking views of the city.
The 21st, 46th, 64th, and 78th floors are served as technical floors.

The observation deck is at the uppermost floors (79th to 81st floors), offering panoramic view of Ho Chi Minh City. For more details see Tourist Information.

Restaurants and bars are operated at 66th and 67th floors of the tower.

The small antenna placed atop the spire is being used to broadcasting television signals of the whole city.

Design

Vincom Landmark 81 is designed by Atkins, a British company focusing on architectural design, engineering, and consulting services.
Atkins has designed numerous skyscrapers in the world, most of them are in Dubai and China, one of the most notable buildings designed by Atkins is Burj Al Arab.
Landmark 81 has 81 floors, with a gross floor area of 241,000 square meters.

The building's structure is simply a bundled-tubes system, which comprised of 36 square tubes of different heights, clustered in a 6x6 matrix. The higher tubes are placed in the center of the matrix, surrounded by lower tubes. One of the most notable buildings using this kind of design is the Willis Tower in Chicago.


According to the designer, the design of the tower is inspired by the traditional bundle of bamboo, symbolizing strength and unity in Vietnamese culture.
Most of these tube structures are topped with roof gardens, with exception of the highest ones.
The base of the building is used for a shopping mall.

Development

The project Vincom Landmark 81 is funded and developed by Vingroup, a local real estate development corporation and the largest real estate developer in Vietnam.
The ground-breaking ceremony for the tower was held on December 13, 2014. The construction began in August 2015.
In October 2017, the tower surpassed the 263-meter Bitexco Financial Tower to become the tallest building in Ho Chi Minh City, and second tallest building in Viatnam, after Landmark 72 in Hanoi.
Landmark 81 structurally topped out in January 2018, when construction on all the building's floors completed, with only the crown spire remaining to be built.

On April 10, 2018, the crown spire was built to reach the planned height of the building at 461 meters, Landmark 81 officially topped out, becoming the tallest building in Vietnam.

In August 2018, the 8.3-meter tall antenna was installed on the top of the tower, making the tower completely topped out at its full height.

Landmark 81 was opened in late 2018.

Tourist Information

Landmark 81 has a multi-floor observation deck on the top, spanning from 79th floor at 369.7 meters high to 81st floor at 382.7 meters high, it's currently the highest observation deck in Vietnam and also in the whole Southeast Asia.

The observation deck is named Skyview, it opened to the public on April 28, 2019. Visitors can enjoy the 360 degree aerial views of the city from a record height.

And each floor of the observation deck offers unique facilities and activities. The 79th floor has "cloud" chairs and a coffee lounge; On the 80th floor, visitors can play a virtual reality game named "Top of Vietnam", which simulates a parachute jump from the top of Landmark 81.

The 81st floor has an open-air terrace called SkyTouch, visitors can feel the air and wind at 383 meters off the ground, this outdoor terrace is the 5th highest outdoor observation deck in the world.

The opening hours of Skyview observation deck is 8:30 am to 10:00 pm daily.
