Below are the tallest skyscrapers under construction or proposed in London, United Kingdom.
1. 1 Undershaft
Current status: Approved
Height: 295m (new design); 290m (former design) Floors: 74
Uses: Office
Architect: Eric Parry Architects
Developer: Aroland Holdings
1 Undershaft is planned to be built between Twentytwo and The Gherkin, replacing the 118-meter St Helen’s tower. The building is also widely known as The Trellis for the iconic exoskeleton cross bracing of the former design, as shown below.
The tower was previously designed to be 290 meters tall, 16m shorter than the 306-meter Shard, but if the elevation of the ground (14m) is counted, the Shard is only 5 meters higher as its elevation is only 3m.
The new design was revealed in August 2023, the height is increased to 295 meters, or 309 meters with elevation, which makes it as tall as the Shard by this metric.
The top of the building will contain a two-level observation deck, which will be free to access for the public, and will possibly include exhibition space of the Museum of London, and the floor right beneath the observation deck would have a restaurant (the restaurant is relocated to the 10th floor in the new design).
The observation deck of 1 Undershaft will become the highest observatory in London and the United Kingdom, surpassing the 244m-high observatory of the Shard.
