Tianjin is a city situated very close to Beijing, the China's capital city, only half an hour's distance by high-speed rail. In perspective of population, economy, and city overall strength it's behind Beijing, but Tianjin is far ahead of Beijing in the respect of construction of skyscrapers.
Currently there are 3 supertall skyscrapers built or topped out in the city, with the tallest one being 597 m, and there's also a supertall telecom tower, and 10 supertall projects ongoing, which means either under construction or on site preparation, some of them are on hold though, and among them 2 towers are above 500 meters.
The supertall skyscrapers in Tianjin are mainly built or proposed to be built in two districts, one is the city center area, also known as Heping District, where the tallest completed towers located at.
The other one is Binhai New Area, including Xiangluowan CBD, TEDA Modern Service District and the Yujiapu Financial Center, which is located at core area of Binhai New Area, dozens of new skyscraper projects are ongoing in this area, Binhai New Area is a new development district created by the government, whose aim is to make it a new special economic zone and finance center in China just like Pudong in Shanghai, the long-term objective is to turn this area into a Chinese version of Manhattan, it also attracted many international developers like Tishman Speyer and Rockefeller Group, the district is 25 miles away from city center area.
However the tallest one of all these supertall skyscrapers is located in neither of these two districts mentioned above, but another district called Huayuan Industry Park in Xiqing District, it is relatively a desolate land 8 miles away from the central city, but it is the home to 597meters Tianjin Golden Finance 117 Tower, the tower is the country's tallest building by structural height.
