6 Most Futuristic Cities in the World

What will cities in the future be like is something unknown, but we can always predict how they will look like. From some science fiction films, we have got glimpses of the cities in the future, in most of these films, the cities in the future are depicted as having lots of hyper-tall skyscrapers, skybridges connecting buildings, and numerous aircraft flying, like what is shown in Coruscant in Star Wars series or a future version of New York in Fifth Element.
You probably don't know that in our real life, cities look like Coruscant have already begun to emerge.

Let's take a look at some of most futuristic cities in the world. Please note that the cities are listed in a random order.

Dubai

Dubai is well known for its skyscrapers, the city has a large number of high rise buildings, over 30 of them rise above 1000 feet, the amount of which is more than any other city in the world.

The tallest building in the city is Burj Khalifa, which has been the world's tallest building since 2009, and will remain this title for another few years, only to be surpassed by Creek Tower, a 1345-foot hypertall tower under construction at a site a few miles away in the same city.
Height and quantity are not the only highlights of Dubai's skyscrapers. Many skyscrapers in the city are designed with futuristic appearances. One example is the Address Residence Sky View, which is a pair of skyscrapers connected by a unique multi-level skybridge near the top.

Aside from skyscrapers, another thing that makes Dubai futuristic is its artificial islands, the Palm Jumeirah near Dubai Marina is the largest artificial island in the world, the island greatly increases the city's shoreline, and more than 10,000 residents are living there on the island, there's a 3.4-mile-long monorail connecting the western end of the island to the mainland.

A total of three islands like Palm Jumeirah are planned in Dubai, the other two are larger and have taken their shapes, but are not complete yet.

Moscow

Moscow is futuristic for a neighborhood named International Business Center (MIBC) in the city, which is a 60-hectare area filled with many skyscrapers.

In this 60-hectare area, situated 8 of 10 tallest buildings in Europe, and 7 buildings in the area are built higher than 1000 feet (by comparison, the whole city of Shanghai has 5 buildings over 1000-foot high, Hong Kong has 6, Chicago has 6), making MIBC home to one of the most impressive supertall clusters in the world, only the building cluster at Dubai Marina has the same amount of supertall towers as it.

Skyscrapers in MIBC are very unique in shapes and colors, there are the copper-colored Mercury City Tower, the green-colored Eurasia, the Evolution Tower with a DNA-like shape, the City of Capitals that look like stacked boxes. The tallest building is Federation Tower, it was constructed with high-strength concrete that will allow the building to withstand a direct hit of an aircraft.

Chongqing

Chongqing is a city in southwest China, this city is maybe less known than some other Chinese cities like Shanghai, but it's actually the country's largest city by population. High-rise residential buildings and office towers are densely packed around the city, it has one of the most impressive skylines in the world.

The most striking skyscraper seen in the city's skyline is a building complex called Raffles City, which is comprised of eight high-rise buildings, two 1163-ft-tall supertall towers are built in the front row facing the water, followed with six shorter towers in the back row, the most notable feature of the complex is a 1000-foot-long skybridge that sits atop four middle buildings in the back row and connect them together in the air, appears like a horizontal skyscraper.

The skybridge is named Crystal, it's the longest skybridge in the world and one of the highest, it features gardens, restaurants, swimming pools and observatories.
The city center of Chongqing is built upon a peninsula, separated from other regions of the city by a river. To connect the divided parts of the city, most other similar cities are using bridges or underwater tunnels, while these facilities can also be found in Chongqing, there's an additional unique means of transportation being used to take people into and out of the peninsula, that's the sky cable cars, which are used by many local citizen on a daily basis.

Aside from above mentioned things, Chongqing has a lot more futuristic aspects, read more about it in this article.

Shanghai

The city of Shanghai is the best representative modern city of China, high-rise buildings can be found almost everywhere in the city. On the east side of the Huangpu River, there are three giant towers soaring into sky, they form the world's tallest supertall building cluster.

The tallest tower in the cluster is the 632-meter-tall Shanghai Tower, which is the world's second tallest building. Even the second tallest one (Shanghai World Financial Center) in the building cluster is almost taller than the tallest building in any other city in this page (with the exception of Dubai, in which Shanghai World Finance Center can be the second tallest building if it's built there).

New York City

New York City is maybe the most renowned city of skyscrapers, the number of supertall towers in the city is only second to Dubai, but New York looks much denser than Dubai due to the large number of middle-sized high-rise buildings.

Compared to skyscrapers in Dubai or Moscow, the styles of New York's skyscrapers are more classical, futuristic-looking buildings are relatively rare.
However, this is no longer true as the city is witnessing a building boom, in which some futuristic-looking buildings are built or under development. One of these new buildings is the Via 57 West, which can be seen on the west side of Midtown New York and looks like a colossal pyramid.

Hong Kong

Hong Kong is famous for its high-density of skyscrapers. The city has less supertalls than Dubai, New York or Moscow, but in terms of the number of buildings higher than 500 feet, Hong Kong has almost twice as many as that of Dubai, the density of the skyscrapers in the city is the highest in the world.

There are over 1500 high-rise buildings that have over 30 stories in the city, more than any other city in the world, for this reason the city has more inhabitants living at the 15th floor or higher than any other city.
